Cooperation matters between Turkmenistan and the Economic Cooperation Organization discussed

On February 12, 2025, during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov to the Islamic Republic of Iran, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad Majeed Khan.
During the meeting, an interested exchange of views took place on the current state of multifaceted collaboration between Turkmenistan and the ECO, and paths of further development of the partnership were outlined. It was noted that the positive experience of joint work accumulated over the past years serves as a strong basis.
The Minister emphasized that Turkmenistan seeks to contribute to raise the efficiency of this multilateral structure. The transport sector and border trade were named among the priority areas. In this context, the importance of ECO Transit Transport Framework Agreement, as well as the ECO Trade Agreement, was noted.
The interlocutors discussed issues of holding joint seminars and trainings.
Special attention was paid to partnership in the field of sustainable development. In this regard, the Secretary General proposed to organize events on sustainable development in Turkmenistan in the first half of 2025.
The Minister invited the Secretary General to take part in the events held in Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
At the end of the meeting, having confirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and the ECO to constructive dialogue, the parties expressed confidence in the further progressive development of cooperation.
