Current aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development discussed

On March 5, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova and the delegation headed by the Managing Director for Financial Institutions of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Francis Malige.

The main objective of the delegation’s visit is to explore the needs of the banking sector of Turkmenistan and define new potential areas of partnership with the EBRD.

During the meeting, the sides noted the long-term and fruitful nature of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD, which is reflected in the implementation of more than 80 projects, including those on trade promotion, production, as well as development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.

The sides reviewed the priorities of the EBRD’s work in Turkmenistan, in particular, its export-oriented approach, collaboration with the banking sector of the country, assistance in the introduction of modern banking practices.

In addition, the parties discussed further cooperation, in particular the preparation of the EBRD Country Strategy for the upcoming period.
