Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan met with representatives of the Republic of Türkiye

On March 19, 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye Alparslan Bayraktar and the General Director of the «Botaş» company Abdulvahid Fidan, who are on a visit to our country.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss priority areas of bilateral cooperation and noting that the Republic of Türkiye attaches great importance to strengthening fraternal relations with independent Turkmenistan, the guests congratulated the National Leader of the Turkmen people on the holy month of Oraza.

Taking the opportunity, Alparslan Bayraktar conveyed warm greetings from the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan.

Having thanked for the congratulations, the National Leader of the Turkmen people addressed his best wishes to the head of the fraternal state. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted that he was glad to receive Turkish guests within the framework of the International Conference «International Year of Peace and Trust: the Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development» held in Ashgabat. The National Leader of the Turkmen people also expressed confidence that the visit of the delegation of the friendly country will be fruitful and meetings with Turkmen colleagues will give a great impetus to the further development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation to take part in today’s forum in Ashgabat, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye noted that the proclamation of 2025 as the «International Year of Peace and Trust» at the initiative of Turkmenistan is evidence of the recognition of our country’s peace-loving foreign policy by the international community. At the same time, Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the importance of the initiatives and valuable recommendations voiced by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan in his speech at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

Citing the statement of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan «One nation – two states», the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that at present the Republic of Türkiye is a major trade and economic partner of our country, occupying one of the leading positions in foreign trade turnover. In this regard, Hero-Arkadag also emphasized the existence of enormous potential for the development of productive cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport and communications and investment spheres at the bilateral and regional levels.

Having confirmed the readiness of Turkmenistan, which has the richest natural resources, to further intensify partnership with the Republic of Türkiye in the energy sector, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted that one of the important issues is the export of Turkmen natural gas to the fraternal country and further to European countries.

As reported, Turkmen natural gas is currently transported to the Republic of Türkiye via the Islamic Republic of Iran under the SWAP scheme. With the commissioning of the power plant being built on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, it will also be possible to export electricity across the sea to neighboring states, including Türkiye and other countries.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider specific proposals from the Turkish side in the mentioned areas and other issues of mutual interest, and to support its constructive initiatives.

At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and representatives of the friendly country exchanged best wishes, expressing confidence in the further development of multifaceted bilateral cooperation that meets the interests of the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Türkiye.
