Negotiations of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

On August 22, 2025, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, negotiations were held between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit to participate in the trilateral meeting "Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan".

The head of the friendly country was warmly greeted at the Congress Center by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

After the traditional ceremony of joint photography against the backdrop of the State flags of the two fraternal countries, a one-on-one meeting was held between the National Leader of the Turkmen people and the head of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during which the current state of interstate relations and priority vectors for their further development were discussed.

Having once again greeted the distinguished guest, the National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan.

Thanking the head of the neighboring state for the high hospitality and warm welcome during his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in July of this year, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized that during the visit, the sights of Azerbaijan were seen and important issues of mutual interest were discussed.

The President of Azerbaijan, who then spoke, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty for the warm welcome provided on Turkmen soil and the good organization of the summit in Avaza.

As the head of the brotherly country noted, it is a great honor for him to be in beautiful Avaza and take part in this event.

Thanking the National Leader of the Turkmen people for the initiative to hold trilateral talks at the highest level, President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that today's meeting will give a powerful impetus to the further development of relations between the states of the region.

The negotiations then continued in an expanded format with the participation of members of the delegations of the two countries.

Having thanked the head of the fraternal state and the members of the delegation on his own behalf and on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan for the invitation to take part in the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan summit meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people once again noted that he was glad to welcome the guests to the Turkmen land.

Guided by the principles on which the interstate dialogue is based, the current meeting will discuss issues of strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in the political, economic, cultural and other spheres, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan continued.

As noted, trade and economic relations occupy an important place on the agenda of bilateral cooperation. In particular, it was discussed that there are necessary conditions for increasing the volume of trade turnover, developing partnerships in such sectors as energy, transport and logistics, communications, textile industry, construction, etc.

One of the priority areas of interstate dialogue is the socio-cultural sphere, said the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

Speaking about the importance of regularly holding cross-cultural Days, building partnerships in the scientific and educational sphere, in the area of sports and tourism, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty confirmed the readiness to support the organization of joint events.

Having once again noted that he was glad to see President Ilham Aliyev in Turkmenistan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people gave the floor to the head of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Expressing gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people for the warm welcome provided on Turkmen soil and the high level of organization of the summit in Avaza, the distinguished guest noted that it was a great honor for him to be in beautiful Avaza and participate in the international event.

The leader of Azerbaijan highly appreciated the level of transport and logistics infrastructure of international importance created in Turkmenistan, which is important for the revival of the Great Silk Road in a modern format.

Having noted the existence of great potential for the development of relations between the two countries in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and transport-communication spheres, the head of the neighboring state expressed confidence that joint efforts will yield positive results.

Speaking about political and diplomatic partnership, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized that the positions of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan on current issues of world and regional politics largely coincide or are similar. Active interaction is carried out within the framework of international and regional organizations, primarily the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, the OIC, the United Territory Territory, the ECO, etc.

Along with this, it was emphasized that special importance is attached to the development of bilateral trade and economic relations, where there is a certain positive experience of joint work and the presence of enormous opportunities for building up partnership in this area in the near future.

Speaking about the potential in the field of transport, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that taking into account the modern infrastructure and capabilities of the Turkmen and Azerbaijani seaports, I consider it appropriate to consider the issue of creating the most favorable conditions and preferences for cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian transport corridor.

At the same time, the great potential for joint work between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in the supply of electricity from the Caspian region to European countries was noted.

As was noted, special attention was paid to interaction in the field of culture.

In addition, given the enormous potential in the fields of healthcare, education and science, the importance of expanding cooperation in these areas was discussed.

Expressing confidence that the traditionally fraternal relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, thanks to joint efforts, will continue to dynamically develop and deepen in the spirit of mutually respectful partnership for the benefit of the two countries and peoples, the National Leader of the Turkmen people thanked the head of the fraternal state for his great personal contribution to the development of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations.

In conclusion of his speech, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty wished President Ilham Aliyev good health, success in his responsible state activities, and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan well-being, peace and prosperity.
