Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

On August 25, 2025, political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Turkmen side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov, and the Pakistani side was headed by Additional Secretary of the MFA of Pakistan for West Asia and Afghanistan Syed Ali Asad Gillani.

As part of the meeting agenda, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields.

The diplomats confirmed that the key factor in the development of interstate relations is regular dialogue at the highest political level.

The interest of Turkmenistan and Pakistan in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, as well as developing partnership within the framework of international and regional structures, was noted.

The parties emphasized the importance of the activities of the Joint Turkmen-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and expressed interest in holding the next meeting in the near future. In order to expand trade and economic cooperation, diplomats spoke in favor of establishing direct contacts between representatives of the private sector of the two countries.

In addition, ways to improve the legal framework for cooperation and issues of promoting joint projects in the energy and transport sectors were discussed. In this context, diplomats discussed the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project.

During the consultations, the parties discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation and upcoming events scheduled for this year.
