Meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation
On May 22, 2026, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the successive meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss key issues on the bilateral agenda, the Prime Minister of Russia emphasized that the strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan is based on a solid foundation of friendship and mutual respect.
Mikhail Mishustin conveyed warm greetings from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the head of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen People. The Chairman of the Russian Government also expressed gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for creating favorable conditions for the current meeting.
Having returned greetings and best wishes to the President of the Russian Federation, the head of state expressed gratitude to Mikhail Mishustin for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the participation of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation in the current meeting confirms the commitment of Russia to further strengthening of multilateral cooperation within the CIS.
The head of state expressed firm confidence that the decisions adopted at the meeting will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the CIS countries, and that the current visit of the Prime Minister of Russia will give new impetus to the strengthening of friendly relations between the two states.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to developing a strategic partnership with the Russian Federation.
It was noted that bilateral political dialogue is consistently strengthening, and interparliamentary cooperation is also actively continuing. Fruitful relations between Turkmenistan and the regions and subjects of the Russian Federation have been established. In this regard, the head of state emphasized the importance of cooperation within the “Central Asia – Russia” format.
The sides discussed trade-economic cooperation. For many years, the Russian Federation has been one of Turkmenistan’s leading trading partners.
In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted Turkmenistan’s interest in increasing mutual trade volumes and expanding the range of goods traded, as well as establishing closer contacts between business representatives.
The cultural and humanitarian sphere was identified as one of the important areas of bilateral cooperation. In this context, particular attention is paid to partnership in education, healthcare, science, and culture.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin exchanged best wishes, also addressed to the friendly peoples of the two countries, and reaffirmed their commitment to further development of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
