On June 19, 2026, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted an international scientific and practical conference, "Turkmenistan – Malaysia: 30 Years of Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Industry," and an exhibition dedicated to the Turkmen-Malaysian partnership. The event was attended by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who was visiting Turkmenistan.

The forum was also attended by leaders of the domestic oil and gas industry and representatives of major global companies in the industry.

The current stage of bilateral relations was marked by a significant event: a large-scale scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of fruitful cooperation with the Malaysian company Petronas. This forum not only summarizes the results of joint work over the past period but also serves as a strategic platform for laying the foundation for cooperation for the coming decades.

The personal participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirms the special significance and high international level of this event.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was given the floor first to address the plenary session of the conference.

First, the head of state thanked Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for accepting the invitation to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan, for the constructive talks held, and for his participation in this conference. All this once again demonstrates the strategic importance of bilateral partnership in the oil and gas sector.

Cooperation in this area, in turn, is a crucial factor in long-term economic and investment cooperation between our countries. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sector. The Malaysian company Petronas plays a significant role in this matter: over the years of its operations in our country, the company has invested approximately $12 billion in Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry.

As noted, tremendous work has been accomplished over this period, and a solid legal framework for cooperation has been established. Steady growth in production volumes has also been achieved at Turkmenistan's oil and gas fields: five platforms have been built offshore and approximately 40 exploration, appraisal, and production wells have been drilled.

As a result of this extensive work, significant hydrocarbon reserves have been discovered to date. Development of fields such as Magtymguly, Diýarbekir, and Garagöl Deňiz is currently ongoing. Commercial development of the Öwez and Maşrykow fields is also planned for the near future. One of the most significant achievements of Petronas and its Turkmen partners during their years of joint work in the Caspian Sea was the production of over 44 billion cubic meters of gas and 16 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons.

Thanks to close cooperation with their Malaysian partners, a gas treatment plant, an onshore gas terminal, and an offshore structure assembly facility were built on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea.

In conclusion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov once again thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his support of Malaysian companies in Turkmenistan and congratulated the conference participants on the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sector, wishing them success and new achievements.

Then the floor was given to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. First of all, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, on behalf of the people of Malaysia, expressed gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Government, and the fraternal people of Turkmenistan, noting that Malaysia highly values the relations between our countries, which are based on mutual trust, respect, and a commitment to joint development.

The signing of the package of relevant documents today is evidence that bilateral relations have entered a new stage, the Malaysian Prime Minister stated, emphasizing that the poetic lines of the great thinker Magtymguly Pyragy, «Köňüller, ýürekler bir bolup başlar, Tartsa ýygyn, erär topraklar, daşlar» perfectly capture the essence of today's meeting.

Noting that these words best testify to the spiritual unity of the peoples of Malaysia and Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated his gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and representatives of Turkmenistan's business community.

Following the plenary session, the President and the distinguished guest toured an exhibition dedicated to Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation.

After the exhibition tour, a signing ceremony for bilateral documents of the state-owned concerns Türkmennebit, Türkmengaz, with Petronas Çarigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd. took place with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

At the end of the forum, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim were expressed heartfelt gratitude for their participation in the conference and best wishes for success in their ongoing endeavors.

Thus, the international scientific and practical conference held in Ashgabat clearly confirmed that the 30-year cooperation between Turkmenistan and Petronas has been exemplary in its long-term and mutually beneficial nature.
