The Next Round of Turkmen-Kazakh Inter-Ministerial Consultations Was Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On July 1, 2026, political consultations at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan were held at the building of the foreign policy agency of Turkmenistan. The diplomats reviewed key areas of interstate partnership based on the principles of good-neighborliness and mutual respect.

Within the political and diplomatic framework, the parties noted the high dynamics of bilateral contacts set by the leaders of the two states. Particular attention was paid to the strengthening of interparliamentary ties as an important instrument of public diplomacy. The Ministers highly assessed the mechanism of regular inter-ministerial consultations, which enables prompt coordination of positions.

 During the discussion of the global agenda, the commitment to close cooperation within the United Nations and other authoritative international organizations through mutual support of multilateral initiatives was reaffirmed.

Focusing on trade and economic partnership, the sides outlined steps to increase mutual trade volumes and diversify the structure of trade turnover. Energy cooperation and transit-transport interaction aimed at making maximum use of the region’s transit potential were identified among the priorities. The Ministers also expressed support for promoting cross-border cooperation, which contributes to strengthening direct ties between the regions of the two countries.

The sphere of cultural and humanitarian relations was considered from the perspective of deepening traditional contacts in culture, science, and education. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of expanding partnership in the information sphere. Prospects for cooperation in healthcare and sports were also highlighted separately.

An important topic of the talks was cooperation in the field of water resources and climate change issues. The parties discussed in detail interaction within the framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) and coordinated their positions on the Caspian issues. The Kazakh side expressed support for the initiative of Turkmenistan to establish a Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of the foreign ministries confirmed their commitment to further strengthening multifaceted partnership within the framework of regional cooperation formats.

On the same day, a signing ceremony was held for the Cooperation Programme between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2027–2028. This document is aimed at systematizing interdepartmental cooperation and consolidating key areas of partnership.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan was also presented with the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on Friendship, Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st Century, signed by the President of Turkmenistan.
