PRESENTATION OF THE «NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION PLAN 2016-2020»

On March 16, 2016 a presentation of the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2016-2020 was held in Ashgabat. The organizers of the meeting were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Development Programme in Turkmenistan and the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan.

The presentation was attended by the representatives and heads of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, heads of diplomatic missions and representations of international organizations working in Turkmenistan, representatives of the media, as well as representatives of public organizations of the country.

The main objective of the National Action Plan is further improvement of the activities of state bodies and public organizations of Turkmenistan to ensure human rights and freedoms, as well as the implementation of international humanitarian law in the country's legislation and law practice.

During the presentation it was noted that the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2016-2020 is the result of the efforts of the Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan to ensure the fulfillment of international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law, as well as joint projects with the United Nations High Commissioner, the UN Development Program and the European Union.

Participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude to the esteemed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the creation of favorable conditions for effective work of the Interdepartmental Commission and assured that they will continue efforts to successfully carry out the tasks provided for in the National Plan.
