Key aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank were considered

On February 28, 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the World Bank Vice President for the Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani in Ashgabat. The meeting was also attended by regional directors of the World Bank and representatives of the International Finance Corporation.
During the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation. At the same time, the priorities of Turkmenistan’s partnership with the World Bank were outlined, among which water resources management, energy, transportation and connectivity hold a special place.
The Turkmen side voiced its official position on resolving water issues in the Central Asian region based on three principles: first, adherence to the norms of the international law, second, account of interests of all states of the region and third, participation of international organizations, primarily the United Nations, in this process.
It was emphasized that construction of hydraulic structures and water management facilities on transboundary rivers in Central Asia should be realized in strict compliance with high technological, environmental, technical and other international standards.
In addition, the sides discussed in detail joint work in the field of transportation and interconnectivity, reduction of methane emissions and renewable energy sources.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation.
