Preparations for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries discussed in Avaza

On July 13, 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting of the State Organizing Committee dedicated to the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone from August 4 to 8 this year.

During the meeting, issues related to the high-level organization of the international forum and other events within its framework were considered, as well as an assessment of the work done to date and specification of the upcoming tasks.

The meeting was attended by members of the Government, heads of ministries and departments.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized that within the framework of the upcoming Conference, which will be organized by Turkmenistan jointly with the UN, it is planned to hold many events of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian orientation.

As noted, the participation of 32 heads of state, including their governments, as well as interested UN member states, the Secretary General of the Organization itself and his deputies is expected. In addition to them, the arrival of leaders and representatives of a number of international and regional structures, legislative bodies, financial institutions, public associations and the private sector is expected.

The upcoming events will cover seven main areas: the opening and closing ceremonies of the international Conference, as well as plenary sessions; five high-level thematic round tables; seven high-level forums, namely the Ministerial Meeting on South–South Cooperation, the Parliamentary Forum, the Private Sector Forum, the Civil Society Forum, the Youth Forum, the Women Leaders’ Meeting, and the Liaison Event; side events held by the participating countries of the Conference, international organizations and institutions, as well as the Turkmen side, including events on land transport and communications, the International Year of Peace and Trust, youth policy, sustainable energy, and the circular economy; thematic exhibitions in the buildings where the Conference and side events will be held, including those organized by the Turkmen side; national days of the Central Asian states, as well as a gala concert of cultural figures and artists within their framework; an official banquet in honor of the participants of the Conference on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan.

Further, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan defined the upcoming tasks and measures aimed at ensuring the organization of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries and high-level events during it.

Then the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan gave the floor to the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs R.Meredov.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed sincere gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people for the recommendations on the organized holding of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

Information was also provided on the recent signing of the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations on the procedure for organizing the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, based on the relevant Resolution of the Head of State.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed about the preparations for the work of the administrative building of the international forum, as well as volunteers.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan gave recommendations on drawing up the program of the opening and closing ceremonies of the international Conference jointly with the UN Secretariat, the concept of events to be organized by the Turkmen side, and ensuring their registration by the UN.

Then Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B.Amanov spoke, providing detailed information on the developed program for the organized holding of the international Conference and the proper solution of the relevant tasks.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people noted the need for coordinated work of specialized services for the organized holding of the planned events, paying special attention to the high-level reception of guests and the proper organization of the work of the Conference.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B.Annamamedov informed about the progress of construction and repair work carried out in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. As reported, great importance is attached to the improvement of roads in the territory of the tourist zone and the creation of necessary conditions along them.

Stressing the need to pay due attention to the issues of quality and timely completion of repair and construction works in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan pointed out that nothing should be overlooked.

Next, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Seyidova spoke, informing about the cultural program of the Conference and preparations for events within its framework.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach in the broad coverage of the international forum.

Noting the importance of special attention to the organizational level of cultural and humanitarian events within the framework of the international Conference, especially the upcoming friendship concert and festival of national dishes in honor of the national days of the countries of the world, the National Leader of the Turkmen people gave a number of relevant recommendations.

Concluding the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan wished those gathered good health, family well-being and new successes in their work.
