The regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Implementation of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law took place
On 23 February 2026, the regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Implementation of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the country, the Ombudswoman of Turkmenistan, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan, as well as leaders of public organizations.
During the meeting, the results of the Commission’s work for 2025 were summarized, and priority areas of activity for 2026 were identified.
The consistent strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations and its specialized agencies has been noted, along with the development of dialogue with the European Union, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the International Labour Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
A separate agenda item was devoted to the implementation of the Roadmap for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization and the extension of its validity until the end of 2026.
In addition, it was noted that the National Action Plan on Human Rights and the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021–2025 have been successfully completed. Drafts of new national action plans for 2026–2030 have been prepared, taking into account the recommendations of the UN treaty bodies, the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting also discussed issues related to improving the organizational functioning of the Commission, enhancing the quality of preparation of national reports, and further developing cooperation with international partners.
