Working Visit of the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan
From May 13 to 14, 2026, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by D. Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis, conducted a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On the first day of the visit, the Turkmen delegation attended the women scientists' forum titled "Women's Leadership in Science: Contemporary Issues, Innovative Solutions, and Scientific Cooperation". The event was organized within the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Speaking at the forum, Chairperson of the Mejlis D. Gulmanova elaborated on Turkmenistan's systematic efforts to enhance digital literacy, support the research activities of women scientists in biotechnology, ecology, and innovative technologies, and improve the relevant legislative framework.
On the same day, a meeting took place between D. Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, and T. Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the meeting, the sides emphasized that centuries-old Turkmen-Uzbek friendly relations are being strengthened through parliamentary diplomacy. The parties discussed transport-transit and border cooperation, enhancing the role of women in digital technologies, and exchanging experience in legislative work.
On May 14, the Turkmen delegation participated in the Second Asian Women's Forum, held under the theme "Investing in Women – The Basis of Sustainable Growth: Empowering Women Politically, Economically, Socially, and Environmentally". In her address, the Speaker of Parliament noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the policy of ensuring gender equality and strengthening the role of women in public administration and social life. Furthermore, she highlighted that Turkmenistan’s initiative put forward at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly to declare 2028 the "International Year of International Law" will contribute to strengthening international legal norms and gender equality.
During the visit, the Chairperson of the Mejlis invited the forum participants and the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan to attend the International Women's Dialogue, the International Conference on Demography, and the meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. These events will be held in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone as part of Turkmenistan's 2026 chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
