President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlights the importance of new bridges across Amudarya River in the context of regional ccoperation

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new railway and road bridges across Amu Darya, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the historic significance of this event. The opening ceremony of the new bridges has also been attended by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is visiting Turkmenistan. 

Starting to build these large-scale facilities, we proceeded, first of all, from the understanding that the territory of Central Asia today is becoming one of the most important transport and transit hubs of world significance, the Turkmen leader stressed. The region is to play an integrating role in the natural corridor of transport communication along the lines “North-South” and “East-West”, which would connect Asia and Europe via shortest routes, providing for growth of trade and economic interaction on the continent, the President said. 

Bridges across Amu Darya open a direct flow of goods from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, South Asia to the Caspian Sea and further to the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions, countries of Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. And this will entail an increase in business activity, the influx of large investments, and creation of numerous jobs. 

Such facilities are also a serious stabilizing factor, implying an effective multilateral partnership in transport infrastructure. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized in his speech, with the introduction of new bridges across the Amu Darya, the horizons of partnership and the use of potential of such large organizations as SCO, CIS, and ECO, will expand significantly. The objectives of implementing such projects correspond to the long-term strategy of the United Nations and OSCE in terms of seeing the region as a strong link in the chain of strategic stability in the southern belt of Eurasia. 

The President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude to the management and employees of the Ukrainian company “Altcom”, and all those who worked on the construction of unique facilities.
