TELEPHONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

On October 8, 2020, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The leaders of the two states noted with satisfaction that the fraternal, friendly and good-neighborly dialogue between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan is dynamic and progressive, it is distinguished by deep sincerity and openness.

As it was emphasized, in recent years, Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level and is successfully developing in a wide range of areas, both in a bilateral format and through international structures.

In this context, it was noted that a fruitful character is inherent in interstate trade and economic relations. A vivid example of this is the first online meeting of the "Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan" Business Council held yesterday.

The activities of this Council are designed to help intensify bilateral business contacts, increase the volume of mutual trade, and stimulate investment activity. At the same time, traditional cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian field is expanding and strengthening.

During the exchange of views on a number of topical issues of regional and global agenda, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched upon the spread of coronavirus infection, which has now become a serious test for the entire world community.

As was noted, today Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are carrying out effective work in order to minimize the negative impact of the pandemic on the interstate trade and economic partnership.

Continuing the telephone conversation, the issue of holding a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia was also raised. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to hold it in 2021 in Ashgabat.

In case of approval of this proposal, Turkmenistan is ready to start an appropriate procedure for coordination on the above issue. As for the date and agenda of the upcoming Summit, it is proposed to agree on them through the foreign ministries of the region's countries.

At the end of the conversation, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished each other good health and success in responsible government activities, and the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan - peace, well-being and prosperity.
