World Sambo Champion Gulbadam Babamuratova conferred with the Order was honoured in the Olympic village

Conference hall of the Sport Hotel in the Olympic village of the capital hosted honouring ceremony of Turkmen sambo wrestler Gulbadam Babamuratova who won the gold at the 41st World Sambo Championship in Sochi (Russian Federation). 26 year old Honoured Master of Sports achieved impressive victories in the weight category up to 52 kg.

The sportswoman demonstrated outstanding results in the world arena and has been awarded with the order of Turkmenistan «Garaşsyz Türkmenistana bolan beýik söýgüsi üçin» and presented with valuable gifts from President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedova. The participants including the Chairperson of the Mejlis, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, leaders of the State Committee for Sports, coaches and leading sportsmen of the country, lecturers and students of profile universities warmly congratulated G. Babamuratova, who deservingly represented our country in the world sports of high achievements.

Gulbadam is the winner of numerous large international competitions. She deserved the respect of her opponents, having won eminent and titled wrestlers more than once. In Sochi, our prominent sambo wrestler won deserving gold medal, having demonstrated high skills.

In the first fight, Gulbadam took over the 2013 World Vice-Champion, bronze medallist of 2017 Europe Championship Magdalena Varbanova (Bulgaria) and after, won Diana Truitsa (Romania), the silver prize winner of 2017 Youth World Championship in Novi Sade (Serbia).

In the semi-final, G. Babamuratova met 2016 Asian Champion Gulnur Yerbolova (Kazakhstan), the one she has already met recently in Ashgabat in the final of V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. However, same as in 2017 Ashgabat Games, the best sportswoman of Turkmenistan confidently took over her opponent at the World Championship in Sochi.

In the final, Gulbadam had to have a difficult fight against the hostess of the competition, Russian Yulia Volkova who won the bronze at the last year Europe Championship in Kazan. Having confidently beaten with devastating 7:0 score, G. Babamuratova won the title of Woman World Sambo Champion for the second time.

Twice world champion noted that she was motivated by the fact that this tournament was the final in this year, which means it was her last step in realization of set target – to win all the competitions of current year. The victories at International Tournament for the Prize of the President of Belarus, Sambo World Cup “Kharlamov’s Memorial”, Asian Sambo Championship in Tashkent, V Asian Games in Ashgabat forestalled the final win at the World Championship. These achievements allowed her to fulfil her ambitious target with honour, having devoted her victories to the Motherland.
