A Scientific Bridge between Ashgabat and Tbilisi: Turkmen Orientalists Expand Cooperation with Georgia

On 27 April 2026, a meeting took place between scholars from the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies G. Sanikidze.

The primary objective of the visit was to establish a direct dialogue between orientalist scholars, discuss prospects for joint study of ancient manuscripts, and strengthen academic exchanges. Particular attention was paid to the study of literary and historical monuments linking the regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The Director of the Institute briefed the guests on the main areas of the institution’s activities, including ongoing research and educational projects. The Institute’s active work in the development of oriental studies and the expansion of international cooperation was noted.

The participants of the meeting underscored the importance of studying the historical and cultural heritage of both countries, as well as of organizing joint research projects, conferences, and seminars.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their mutual interest in maintaining dialogue and further expanding cooperation in the fields of science and education.
