As part of the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence, on 24 April 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia held a round table in the auditorium named after Magtymguly Fragi at Sokhumi State University, dedicated to pressing issues in the development of Turkmen–Georgian relations.

The event was attended by a delegation of scholars from Turkmenistan, as well as students and members of the university’s academic staff.

Having warmly welcomed the participants, the Rector of Sukhumi State University, Ms. T.Jugeli, noted that Georgian-Turkmen relations continue to develop in a constructive and mutually beneficial direction. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in the fields of science, education, and culture. It was noted that the development of contacts between universities and relevant institutions contributes to the deepening of institutional ties. It was underscored that the event serves as a clear demonstration of dynamic and effective cooperation.

Other participants noted that, since gaining independence, Turkmenistan has achieved significant progress in the political, economic, cultural, and social spheres. The major reforms initiated by Hero Arkadag are being successfully continued under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In his address, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Georgia, Mr. D. Seyitmammedov, noted that Turkmenistan is marking the 35th anniversary of its independence this year. He underlined that over the years of independence, Turkmen-Georgian cooperation has reached a high level of development and demonstrates a steady positive dynamic. This cooperation encompasses a broad range of areas, including political, economic, and scientific-educational spheres, and contributes to the strengthening of partnership relations. He underscored the pivotal role of high-level visits in this process, noting that they provide an additional impetus to the development of dialogue and strengthen mutual trust.

The participants of the round table also emphasized the strategic geographical location of Turkmenistan and Georgia, which opens up unique opportunities for the development of transit corridors between Asia and Europe.

The event also featured speeches by members of the Turkmen delegation, who presented historical, literary, and cultural aspects of Turkmen-Georgian cooperation, as well as Turkmenistan’s economic achievements.
